چکیده
EarthScope is the United States Earth Science Pro gram to explore the structure and evolution of the North American continent and understand processes control ling earthquakes and volcanoes. A major part of the EarthScope project is the Transportable Array which will be deployed over the next decade over the entire continental United States. This Transportable Array will provide an unparalleled means to study the geology of the United States. through seismology and other geo physical data. EMScope is the magnetotelluric compo nent of the National Science Foundation’s EarthScope USArray program. The MT Transportable Array com prises shorter period investigations at hundreds of sites in the continental United States. By the end of 2009 MT data had been collected from 262 stations located throughout Oregon, Washington, Idaho, and most of Montana and Wyoming, 139 of which were used in this analysis (Fig. 1). Three‐dimensional inversion of large‐scale EarthScope magnetotelluric data based on the integral equation method: Geoelectrical imaging of the Yellowstone conductive mantle plume
[1] Interpretation of the EarthScope MT (magnetotelluric) data requires the development of a large‐scale inversion method which can address two common problems of 3D MT inversion: computational time andmemory requirements. We have developed an efficient method of 3D MT inversion based on an IE (integral equation) formulation of the MT forward modeling problem and a receiver footprint approach, ...

Three-dimensional magnetotelluric MT inversion is an emerging technique for offshore hydrocarbon exploration. We have developed a new approach to the 3D inversion of MT data, based on the integral equation method. The Tikhonov regularization and physical constraint have been used to obtain a stable and reasonable solution of the inverse problem. The method is implemented in a fully parallel com...
متن کاملLarge-scale Inversion of Magnetic Data Using Golub-Kahan Bidiagonalization with Truncated Generalized Cross Validation for Regularization Parameter Estimation
In this paper a fast method for large-scale sparse inversion of magnetic data is considered. The L1-norm stabilizer is used to generate models with sharp and distinct interfaces. To deal with the non-linearity introduced by the L1-norm, a model-space iteratively reweighted least squares algorithm is used. The original model matrix is factorized using the Golub-Kahan bidiagonalization that proje...
متن کاملInverse modeling of HEM data using a new inversion algorithm
Helicopter-borne frequency-domain electromagnetic (HEM) surveys are used extensively for mineral and groundwater exploration and a number of environmental investigations. To have a meaningful interpretation of the measured multi- frequency HEM data, in addition to the resistivity maps which are provided in each frequency or for some particular depth levels, it is a necessity ...
متن کاملThree-dimensional Magnetotelluric Modeling of data from Northeast of Gorgan Plain
Magnetotelluric measurements have been conducted in the period range of 0.005-128 s along five parallel east-west directed profiles including 85 sites totally in the north-eastern part of Gorgan Plain, Golestan Province, North of Iran; with the aim of exploring iodine. Distortion and dimensionality analysis of data imply the existence of a north-south elongated two-dimensional model with some l...
